Wei holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Sydney and a Master of Engineering from the University of New South Wales. He a native speaker of Mandarin, Hokkien and Japanese (JLPT N-3). He has been studying and working in Australia for almost 20 years. He was admitted as a solicitor to the High Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 2015.
